Originally swimming as Margate Swimming Club they were formed by an organisation called Margate and District Indoor Swimming Pool Association.

Betty Renz, a valued member of the club until closing in August 2014, was one of the founder members. The Association, in a bid to secure an indoor swimming pool, came up with the idea of teaching children to swim.

The first lesson was held at the Margate Lido on 2nd July 1968 at a cost of 10d for a two-hour lesson.

They continued to teach at the Lido for the next 4 summers until the council finally agreed to build an indoor pool. The money raised by the MADISPA was given to the council to help equip the new pool.

The original chairman’s wife designed our logo and it was from that we became known as the Dolphins.

The Head coach for the majority of the years running was John White, the current Seahawk junior squad head coach.

With two competitive clubs in the area, it was always a struggle to obtain suitable pool time. In August 2014, after many years of trying Margate Swimming Club merged with Thanet Swim Club to create the new Dolphin Squads.
