Unwanted Swimming Costumes for Africa

If you have any unwanted costumes please consider donating them to “Rural Splash”.  This is a swimming club in South Africa which allows children from disadvantaged areas and backgrounds to learn to swim and progress to compete.  The Club gives the lessons for free.  Most of the children live in shanty towns in shacks with no water or electricty.  Costumes in any condition would be much appreciated.

The Carricks will be presenting the costumes to the Club in early December.  So please give any costume donations to Taine,Mikyle or Magda by the end of November.

Arena League Round 1

Probably one of the more challenging national league nights; no electronic timing, not enough seating capacity for the spectators and then cluminating in the final results being announced 3 times with 3 different winners. Rushmoor Royals were the eventual winners by 2 points from Windsor Swim.

It was unfortunate that the interim results was placing us in predominately last place when in reality we were competing for 3rd with Guildford B. In the end, we finished in a very creditable 4th place with 169 points.

But there were many positives not least 9 wins, 6 second placed finishes and 8 thirds. Our winners were Katie Latham x3 (including the u15 and Open 100m Back), Jamie O’Connor x2, Maisie Macartney x2 (50m Fly and Free), Kyri in 100m Breaststroke and the u11 Girls in the Freestyle Relay.

Draw and venue for Round 2 should be announced soon.

East Invicta

The results from the first weekend of the East Invicta Championship up to and including Session 4 have now been published and can be found on our Results page.

It also includes the interim BAGCAT position. The top 4 swimmers, based on BAGCATS, in each individual age group will be selected to take part in the Olympic Training Weekend on the 5th and 6th January at Kingsmead Leisure Centre run by Mel Marshall. Mel is the current Head Coach of City of Derby and represented Team GB at both the Athens and Beijing Olympic Games

Mencap Mile – Dorney Lake, Eton Sunday 30th September 2012

The open water swimming season came to a close with a final outing for Josh Dunk, Lauren Joy, Taine Carrick and Alison Allen who took part in a one mile swim (1600m) at the now famous Olympic rowing venue of Eton Dorney.

The charity swim in aid of MENCAP, saw 200 entrants line up to swim in the lake which was a very chilly 14.1 degrees. Taine, Josh and Alison braved the cold swim without wetsuits but Lauren, having suffered with a cold over previous days, made the sensible decision to wear one. It certainly didn’t affect her performance however as she came storming home in an immense time of 21.41 to take first place overall from the field of 187 finishers. Josh was a close second overall in 22.09 with young Taine putting in a fantastic performance and recording a time of 25.11 and eighth place overall. Josh had stepped in to compete as the third member of a team with two Masters swimmers and helped them to win the Fastest Team prize with an overall combined time of 1 hour, 7 minutes and 46 seconds. Sadly a faulty timing chip meant that Alison’s time was not recorded correctly but was estimated at 32 minutes having studied time stamped photographs of the finish.

A great performance all round from the Thanet swimmers who once again have done themselves and the club proud on the open water circuit.
