Chloe McCardel – Marathon Swimmer

Chloe has been training with Thanet Swim Club for the past 2 weeks as part of her preparation for a Triple Channel Swim. However, her attempt was not successful finishing in the early hours of Sunday morning having completed a double in 19 hours and 20 minutes and a quarter of the way back to finishing the triple before the weather conditions prevented further progress.

It has been a priviledge to have Chloe train with us and her blog is inspiring for all swimmers and a MUST read.

Check out the photo at the bottom 🙂

Hopefully Chloe will return next year and complete that triple

Summer Triathlons

A series of kids triathlons were held over the summer at Deal on 2nd June, Rye on 22nd July and at Uckfield on the 12th August. Our own Beth Williams competed in all three and won all three; the Deal Tri in 14 mins, the Rye tri in 15 mins 54 sec and the Uckfield in 15 mins 27 sec.

The distances covered for the kids traithlon are 100m swim, 1800 bike ride and 1000m run.

Well done Beth

Kent Junior League – Round 2

Oh what a night! We always knew that this was going to be a tight affair after Round 1 especially with home advantage.

Thanet started out very strong leading by 8 points over Sevenoaks after just 10 races! Thanet maintained the lead after 20 races but the gap was only 2 points; surprisingly Beckenham weren’t in contention and so that remained the case for the rest of the evening. Another strong set of 10 races and Thanet opened the lead up after 30 races to 7 points – could this be our night?

However, Sevenoaks were very strong in the next batch of races and after 40 races they had turned the deficit around and opened up a 6 point lead themselves. Thanet were not beaten and with every remaining race inched closer and closer but in the end fell short by just ONE point.

Every swimmer can proud of what we achieved and take confidence into the final round at Sevenoaks.

Surf Day – Joss Bay

Over 40 swimmers attended an introduction to surfing at Joss Bay at the end of the Summer Holidays; I believe that the weather just about held out!

Madga took some great pictures – a selection of them can now be found on our gallery.
