LEN European Open Water Cup
Eilat, Israel, 31st March 2019
Maisie Macartney represented GB at the LEN European Open Water Cup in Eilat, Israel over the weekend of the 30-31st March. On the Saturday, Maisie competed with the GB relay team which won the Silver medal. On the Sunday in her individual event she came 17th overall, and was the third best placed GB female and 3rd junior competitor overall. This is a really great result, especially as the conditions were particularly unpleasant with a choppy swell which resulted in many swimmers, Maisie included, suffering from seasickness. Maisie’s great results means she will progress with the GB team and participate in the next two rounds of the LEN Cup; Round 2 will be in Brive, France over the 21-24th May and Round 3 which will be in Barcelona in late June.
2018 Open Water Season Highlights

Maisie Macartney represented GB at the World Junior Open Water Championships in Eilat, Israel on Thursday 6th September. Maisie completed the gruelling 7.5km race in FOURTH place, having battled throughout in the leading pack with US, Italian and Spanish swimmers. Maisie’s tough training regime throughout the summer certainly paid off, she was in the mix right from the start, with places changing throughout the race, she even took a stint in the lead. Maisie’s finish time was 1 hour and 33 minutes, and at the end, just 1.7 seconds separated 2nd to 4th places.

Congratulations to Maisie Macartney on her races at the European Junior Open Water Championships in Malta over the 12-15th July. Maisie raced in the 7.5km race. Maisie was also scheduled to swim in the 19/U mixed relay, but the race was cancelled due to high winds causing unsafe racing conditions. This is Maisie’s 3rd consecutive summer racing with the GB junior open water team!
