We would like to wish Katie Latham every success, when she competes for Team GB at the upcoming European Junior Championships to be held in Poland.
Katie is the first international swimmer that Thanet Swim Club has produced, however with the current crop of swimmers coming through we sincerely hope she won’t be the last.
Katie’s success is based on natural skill, hard work and a great deal of
dedication.
As with all sports stars the thing that invariably distinguishes them
from everyone else is the dedication and sacrifice that is needed to
compete at a higher level , when Katie’s friends are going out and
enjoying themselves or simply watching tv, Katie will be either training
or doing her homework.
Well done to Upton Primary School team for winning the relay at the National Primary schools.
The team was Alex Boyd (TSC swimmer), Rowan Fuss (former TSC swimmer), Charles Lycett (former TSC swimmer) and Mowgli Palmer (member of Margate Swim Club).
The coaches were Manfred Fuss, Toni Moon, Claire Elassri and Kenny Boyd
We had the first round of the Kent Junior league at the weekend. The club took a big squad to Sevenoaks to a pool that provides a cosy atmosphere for the large number of swimmers involved, particularly with so many youngsters representing their individual clubs for the first time.
We got off to a steady start and did not have to wait too long before our first maximum 6 points courtesy of a PB from Harry Tooke. Sitting joint 5th after the first 10 events, the swimmers pulled out a series of top-level performances to pull us up to 2nd after the next 10 events with some great personal bests from Keiran Dale, Taine Carrick, Jack Baker and Jerry Sykes. Some great team work in the relays in particular, saw us cement our position in third place. More great individual swims and back-to-back relay wins ensured that we would finish no worse than third. The only low points on the night were injuries to Eloise Clements with a possible muscle or ligament injury and Beth Williams slipping and banging her head; let’s hope for speedy recoveries. Further great relay performances and a win in the last event of the night, the Mixed Squadron, saw the club finish in third place, a great result for the squad on its first outing of the season.
