2012…the year to make a Big Splash for charity!
There are a whole host of reasons to get excited during 2012, with the London Olympic Games making its way to the capital this summer, and the world’s biggest fundraising swim coming to a pool near you this April!
To get in on the action, the Big Splash Mile for Sport Relief, which is part of the Swimathon Weekend, is a great reason to get in the pool with friends and family and raise money for worthwhile causes at the same time. Taking place in 650 pools from 27 to 29 April 2012, swimming a mile for Sport Relief really can make a difference to people living incredibly tough lives here in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries.
Over the last year, money raised by Sport Relief has provided access to clean water for almost 52,000 people living in slums. Just £5 could buy new clothes for a child living on the streets of Nepal and £1000 could transform the lives of a whole community living in the slums of Kenya by giving them permanent access to clean water. But it is not just overseas where your money makes a difference, as here in the UK just £10 could give expert advice to a person living with dementia to improve their quality of life.
By signing up, you’ll also receive the Big Splash Mile Swimfit training plan to prepare you for the challenge. If you want to go to further lengths for charity, there’s also the chance to tackle the Swimathon 2.5k, 5k or Team 5k challenges to raise vital funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Do something amazing today and sign up to the Big Splash Mile for Sport Relief at www.swimathon.org
The IoS team are taking part and wondered if your teaching staff would like to take up the challenge too.
We have made the attached posters for you to use within the team and challenge the children and/or swimming families.
