Thanet Top Club at Kent County Championship

This year’s Kent Swimming Championships saw Thanet Swim Club finish as Top Club Overall in Kent in what must be one of the Clubs best performances to date. Thanet maintained its status as Top Club in both the Boys and Mens overall categories. In the Girls and Ladies Overall Categories the Club finished 3rd, improving from 4th and 6th in 2011.

The squad went home with a haul of 296 medals which included 82 Gold Medals 

There were some fantastic individual achievements with Thanet swimmers setting 23 new Kent Event Best performances.

Jamie’s swim in the 400m Free in a record 4.07min is the fastest short course swim ever recorded by a 12-year-old British Boy and places him at the top of the 12 year old National Rankings.

The squad set 69 new Thanet Swim Club records with swimmers Rowan Fuss, Maisie Macartney, Robyn Moon, Jamie O’Connor, Kyri Papa-Adams, Ben Evans, Ben Pond, Katie Latham, Casey Harte and Kelly Henson all re-writing the Club records.

Rowan Fuss (9 yr), Maisie Macartney (10yr), Jamie O’Connor (12yr), Alex Wilmshurst (13yr) all finished top of the Kent BAGCAT tables for their age groups.  Other top 6 BAGCAT finishers were Boys 9yr Thomas King (6th), 10yr Josh Jones (6th), 12yr Louis Thomas (4th), 13yr Harry Bradford (3rd), 14yr Ben Evans (5th), Girls 10yr Robyn Moon (3rd), 12yr Hannah Denny (3rd), 14yr Laura Craig (4th).

The relay races saw further podium successes for Thanet. The Club finished 3rd in the Ladies 100x 4 Medley Relay Team with Katie Latham, Alice Latham, Lauren Joy and Kelly Henson.  The 15/16year girls team of Katie Latham, Alice Latham, Lauren Joy and Maisie Cope finished with 2 silvers.  The same team swam again as the Junior team and finished with 2 bronzes.  The boys under 12 team (Louis Thomas, Sam Crabtree, Oscar Macartney, Jamie O’Connor) finished 2nd in both relays, boys 13/14 (Jordan Honour, Ben Evans, Alex Wilmshurst, Harry Bradford) took 2nd and 3rd, boys 15/16 (Ben Pond, Mikyle Carrick, Casey Harte, Kyri Papa-Adams, Billy Ray Palmer) returned with 2 Silvers, Boys Juniors (Alex Kirkpatrick, Casey Harte, Kyri Papa-Adams, Ben Pond) took bronze in the Free. 

The swimming season continues with the South East Regionals. So far, 34 swimmers have qualified with 181 regional qualifying times.  

The squad have achieved 27 National Qualifying times with Harry Bradford, Alex Wilmshurst, Jamie O’Connor, Ben Evans, Kyri Papa-Adams, Katie Latham and Kelly Henson all securing  a place at the Nationals to be held in the Summer at Sheffield.
