Final round of the Kent Junior League was held at Crook Log Leisure Centre in Bexley and I ought to say what a marvellous facility – if only!
So in reality the League title was Sevenoaks to lose having won both Round 1 and Round 2; Sevenoaks would have needed to have finished 4th for Beckenham or Thanet to have a chance of taking top spot.
Sevenoaks never looked in danger of finishing anywhere but in 1st place on the night and at the end deservedly won Round 3 and in turn the League Title.
The real battle was for 2nd spot between Beckenham and ourselves. With Beckenham having come 2nd in Round 1 and ourselves having come 2nd in Round 2, whoever finished in 2nd place in Round 3 would end up in 2nd place behind Sevenoaks in the final league standings.
Despite missing a number of regular swimmers and continuing illness amongst some of the swimmers the team put up a tremendous fight with a number of debutants to Kent Junior League stepping up to the plate. Throughout the night it was ‘nip and tuck’ with Beckenham and it wasn’t until race 43 of 50 that our fate was finally sealed to 3rd place.
Final points on the night; Sevenoaks 236, Beckenham 217, Thanet 207, Bromley 146, Black Lion 134, Orpington Ojays 104.
