Thanet Swim Club

This year we sent our biggest ever team of seven swimmers to the National Open Water Championships. First off were our three 13 year olds in the 1.5km race: Ben Millington came an impressive 10^th for his second ever open water race, Oscar Miles came 23^rd and Conor Wright soldiered through with a shoulder injury to come 35^th.  Next up was Charley Langford in the 14 years’ 1.5km race; he produced a storming 6^th placed swim.  Session two saw the start of the 15 years’ 3km races, Olivia Miles was competing in her first ever race and finished in a fantastic 6^th place.  Lily Jewell’s race was impacted by a deliberate and forceful dunking; she soldiered on to finish in 21^st position.  Finishing the day was Sam Crabtree in the 17/18 years’ 5km race; he had us on the edge of our seats by placing 9^th, then 5^th, then 4^th, then 2^nd on each lap, he finished a very close 4th after a stitch on the final lap.

This year we sent our biggest ever team of 15 swimmers to the British Summer Championships. The team participated in 49 heats swims and made 36 finals (incl HDW 1-10 places).  41% of the races delivered personal best times.  Three swimmers won a total of 5 medals:  Maisie two SILVERS, Alex a SILVER and a BRONZE and Olivia a BRONZE.  Full placings below:

Congratulations to Sam and Josh Crabtree on their successes at the Henley Mile.  Sam competed in the Elite ‘Suits v Skins’ race against a serious four-strong team from Wycombe.  In the first wetsuit race he finished third after getting boxed in, so the afternoon’s non-wetsuit swim became a matter of honour. Sam stormed the race and finished with an 18 second lead. This resulted in an overall WIN for the fastest combined time.  Josh decided to swim the half mile non-wetsuit, he went out fast and led convincingly for most of the race.  He finished in BRONZE position having been pipped by two wetsuit swimmers at the finish.
