Thanet Swim Club

Congratulations to our team that competed at the South East Region Open Water Championships on Saturday 21st July.  This was our biggest ever team of 12 swimmers: In the 5km race Oscar Macartney was the overall winner 🏆, Lily Jewell won her age group 🏆 and came 3rd 🥉overall.  In the 2km race Alana Wright came 2nd 🥈.  In the 3km  race Ben Millington came 2nd 🥈 and Maddy Lay came 3rd 🥉. All 5 podium places have now been invited to the National Open Water Championships! The rest of the team also had brilliant swims: Evie Slater came 5th (in her first ever OW race!), Nicole Palmer-Jones 6th, Ollie Pope 8th, Stephanie Panteli 11th and Grace Cummings 11th.

Congratulations to our team that competed at the Faversham open air mid-summer gala on 14th July, they absolutely smashed it for the fourth year in a row!

Massive CONGRATULATIONS to Maisie Macartney on her selection to represent GB at the WORLD Junior Open Water Champs in Israel in September.  Maisie’s selection was based on her sterling performance in the 7.5km race at the European Junior Open Water Champs in Malta on the 13^th July.  During this race Maisie battled through multiple jelly fish stings to the face to maintain a place in the leading pack. With only 800m to go she was subject to a fierce kick in the head which resulted in a brave 10^th place finish.  Maisie was also scheduled to swim in the 19/U mixed relay, but the race was cancelled due to high winds causing unsafe racing conditions.  This is Maisie’s 3^rd consecutive summer racing with the GB junior open water team – she’s going from strength to strength.

Well done to Daisy Anderson and Coach Dan Cross who travelled to Helskini in Finland for the European Junior Swimming Championships over the 4-8^th July.  Daisy raced in both the 400m and 200m Individual Medley events races and placed 16^th and 39^th in Europe respectively!  This was a great learning experience for Daisy.  This event was Dan’s first selection for a GB coaching team placement.
